“Nuts to drive snacking category growth in 2011″
Report predicts growth prospects for FMCG

Nuts, mushrooms, crackers and pears are all set to come back into vogue in Ireland in 2011, a new report has revealed.
According to the ‘Food Forecast’, produced by Cork-based food consultants Bullseye Food Marketing, nuts will drive the snacking agenda next year, with health credentials bringing shoppers back to the nut category.
Bullseye is also predicting that snacking SKUs will shift towards ‘recommended portion’ sizes, with nuts in particular to benefit from this.
Most ‘raw’ nut products are sold in larger bags or tubs, which leads to shopper uncertainty about how much is in a portion, however this will be addressed by portion-led SKUs, Bullseye says.
“Producers are putting an emphasis on the healthy fats, anti-oxidants and minerals found in nuts, but at the same time attempting to react to worries consumers may have in relation to recommended dietary guidelines,” said Bullseye’s Conor Hyde.
In addition to growth in nuts, Bullseye said that pears, mushrooms and potatoes are likely to benefit from increased sales due to their healthy attributes. Protein-based snacks are also likely to experience growth, the report states.
Founded by former Dairygold exec Conor Hyde, Bullseye is a specialist food marketing, training and business development consultancy.
